On Saturday, July 18, 2009 Venice Community Housing Corporation hosted the hottest car show on the Westside, the “1st Annual Venice Beach Rides for the Community” Car and Motorcycle Show. Celebrating Venice’s diverse character, event showcased over a hundred vehicles, including vintage, custom, eco, hot rods, muscle cars and motorcycles along Rose Avenue in Venice between Lincoln and Hampton. More than 50 vendors came out and sold everything from car accessories to electric bikes. Over 5,000 people in attendance enjoyed the wonderful food available from all Rose Avenue restaurants, such as Venice Beach Wines and La Cabana, as well as delicious food from a variety of mobile food vendors, including Let’s be Frank 100% grass fed beef hot dogs, Dray’s Bar-B-Que, Calbi Korean Taco Truck and Fishlips Sushi truck. Live entertainment at the event included performances byThe Brotherhood Band—a Westside favorite performing eclectic rock with strong Latin influences; Wailiens—classic rockers with a twist; Insects vs. Robots—a colorful psychedelic rock band, complete with circus performers; The Reflectacles—bluesy folk rock and roll; The Highway Bandits—a classic blues band that set the mood for the day; Venice’s world famous street performers, art cars, and more! Platinum Piston event sponsors included Venice Beach Wines, Al and Ed’s Autosound of Marina del Rey, Enterprise Rent-a-car and The Garage, Inc.
